Introducing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialty of Dentistry which bridges both Dentistry and Medicine.  Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons complete 4-6 years of hospital based training beyond the four years of general dental training.  They receive in depth training in treating diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region.  In addition to the surgical training in the specialty they also receive education and training in Medicine including Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit.

The specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is at the forefront of emerging technology and science.  New advancements in the areas of Dental Implantology, Bone Regeneration, and Anesthesia allow the contemporary surgeon to reconstruct the compromised jaw so that a once “oral cripple” can enjoy the benefits of stable prosthetic teeth that look and function like natural teeth.

Team Relationship with your Dentist or Physician:

Dr. Hicks as a specialist works hand in hand with your referring Doctor. Communication between your referring Doctor and Dr. Hicks and his staff is essential for success and smooth progress in meeting your needs and expectations. If you are given prescription notes, letter, or x-rays, always bring these with you to your consultation appointments. Dr. Hicks will send letters back to your Dentist or Physician describing any therapy that you were provided.

The Importance of Consultation and Examination Prior to Surgical Therapy

In order to provide you with the highest quality of care, Dr. Hicks will meet with you for an initial consultation to explain your surgical procedure in detail. Understanding treatment options helps most patients feel more relaxed. Dr. Hicks brings many years of clinical and surgical experience to his practice and patients can feel confident in his ability to perform the most delicate surgical procedures.

Each one of our instruments and hand pieces undergo thorough sterilization, as well as a heat and pressure process called "autoclaving". For quality assurance purposes, our autoclave device is frequently monitored to verify proper sterilization.

Fees and payment

Our office staff will be happy to answer any question you may have about fees or insurance. A complete estimate of surgical fees and possible insurance benefits will be provided to you at your initial appointment. Fees for consultations, exams and x-rays are due at the time of service unless covered in full by your insurance. The estimated deductible and co-insurance amounts will be due in full the day our your surgery. If you services are not covered by insurance, payment will be due in full the day of your surgery.

Insurance

Our office makes every effort to provide you with the finest surgical care and the most convenient financial options. It is important that you know what your insurance policy covers. Due to the growing complexity of insurance coverage and plans available. We find that the insurance company is unable to quote our office exact procedure fees, therefore we are unable to calculate the exact amount your insurance will pay.

We encourage you to find out how your policy is designed and what your insurance policy covers.  We recommend that you check with your insurance company or human resource representative.  We will be happy to help in any way we can in filing your insurance claims and answering any of your insurance questions.

Appointments and Office Hours

Regular office hours are daily Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Our appointment coordinator will be happy to provide directions and other office information to make scheduling convenient.

If an emergency should occur after hours or on the weekends, Dr. Hicks will be notified and will return your call as soon as possible. If Dr. Hicks is away, someone from the office will triage the call and determine the course of action.
